Audience Recording Destination
The Audience Recording destination captures the output of an External Campaign into an internal data table within your MessageGears environment. Rather than delivering data to a third-party platform, it records which users were included in a segment at the time the campaign ran — creating a historical, queryable record of your audience extractions.
This is useful for:
- Auditing and compliance — maintain a record of which users received a particular communication or were included in a campaign
- Analytics — track how audience composition changes over time
- Downstream automation — use recorded audiences as inputs for subsequent campaigns or data processes
Prerequisites
Before using the Audience Recording destination, make sure the following are in place:
- An Audience Recording destination configured in your MessageGears environment (contact MessageGears Support to set up the target table)
- A MessageGears audience or Blueprint ready to publish — see Creating and Editing Audiences and Blueprints for Campaign Segmentation
How it works
When an External Campaign runs against the Audience Recording destination, MessageGears writes the audience extract to a designated table in your data environment. The table captures the user records from the Blueprint or audience at the time of execution.
You can schedule recurring Audience Recording campaigns to capture periodic snapshots of a segment, enabling trend analysis and historical comparisons.
Step 1: Create an External Campaign targeting the Audience Recording destination
- Navigate to Campaigns > External.
- Under Settings, select your audience or Blueprint.
- In the Destination dropdown, select your Audience Recording destination.
- Set your schedule (one-time or recurring) and click Save or Launch.

Querying recorded audiences
Recorded audience data is written to the table configured on your destination. You can query this data using standard SQL via your connected data environment.
Contact MessageGears Support for details on the table schema and how to access recorded audience data in your environment.
